Pierre Gaillardot is remembered as a painter and a watercolorist from the New School of Paris whose origins were from the Burgundy region.
He mostly depicted scenes of vineyards and winemakers from his birthplace, then of horse races and everyday life on the seashore as he later lived and worked in Deauville, Normandy.

Employing a rather Expressionist style with a very distinctive and personal brushwork, Gaillardot’s depictions are always lively and filled with bright colors.

Typical of the artist’s craft, this watercolor perfectly captures the hustle and bustle of the docks of the fishing harbor of Deauville and the hard work of the trawler men in their iconic yellow waterproof coat.

• Exhibitions:
The artist exhibited at many of the highly anticipated Paris Salons, of which he was also a member, including the Salon of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the “avant-garde” Salon d’Automne and Salon des Indépendants.
Gaillardot was the chief curator of the Salon du Dessin et de la Peinture à l’Eau (The Work on Paper and Watercolor Salon)
Numerous solo exhibitions were held during his successful career in Paris, Cannes, Nice, Antibes, Dijon…

• Awards:
Gaillardot received a number of awards, prizes, and gold medals and in 1966 he was awarded the ‘Prix Pierre Puvis de Chavannes' upon the recommendation of the Committee of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Art and the City of Paris.

• Museums:
A retrospective exhibition of his works was held at the ‘Musée d’Art Moderne’ in the City of Paris in 1967.
