Chinese Glazed Porcelain Urns, Song Dynasty 12th Century
Pair of Chinese Ying Qing (“shadowy blue”) ware porcelain vases with ceremonial urns dating from the 12th century, Song dynasty. These two stunning vases depict the 12 traditional ritual attendants around the urns, topped with a dragon and the sun, with pagoda form lids. The signature glaze is indeed a pale shadowy blue, giving these wonderful vases a distinct otherworldly quality. In very good condition, with very minor chips. Circa 960 - 1279 AD
Ying Qing ware is distinctive for its light buff-to-white, usually translucent body covered with a white (bai) glaze that is tinged with a pale blue (qing) ranging in tone from bluish gray to bluish green.
