Unusual and rare large scale glazed ceramic hand painted tiles depicting Native Americans (?) in a ceremonial dance. Likely natives of Brazil, when it was a colony of Portugal. The fifteen framed large tiles form one complete painting, quite colorful and exuberant. The figures shown dancing with horns and heavy necklaces that appear to be made of gold. The elongated figures are almost Mannerist in style, a beautiful composition framed by trees and even including the shadows of the revelers. Portuguese 18/19th century. At over 3.5 feet across this is a substantial piece. In original wood frame, plaster backing. Circa 1800.
