Signed M. Ehlinger, lower left Oil on canvas – Excellent condition 23 ¾ x 29 ½ in (60 x 75cm) 32 ½ x 37 ¼ in framed (82,5 x 95cm) Beautiful custom-made, hand-crafted, patinated and gilded frame from the renowned Parisian framing house “RG” Rue Bonaparte Ehlinger studied at the “Académie des Beaux- Arts de Paris” under the tutelage of the famous artists François Flameng and Jules Adler. He regularly exhibited at the “Salon des Artistes Français” in Paris, wining an Honorable Mention in 1928, a Second-Class Medal in 1929 and a Gold Medal in 1941. Ehlinger gained fame as a portrait and nude painter. He was particularly praised for the rendering of the female forms vigorously drawn, the iridescence of the flesh tones in a subtle harmony of colors. • Museums: - The national museum of Fine Arts of Saint-Dié (Vosges, France) owns an important collection of the artist’s work from a 1984 donation in his memory. - The artist's work can also be seen in many museums in France: Paris (Hôtel des Invalides, Musée des deux guerres) Troyes, Strasbourg and abroad: Lima, Sao Paulo. • Exhibitions: - In 1938, the career-launching Galerie Charpentier in Paris held a personal exhibition of Ehlinger's work under the patronage of the Princess of Bauffremont - In 2002, his work was included in a retrospective exhibition: “En Passant par…La Lorraine Vue par ses Peintres”. • Literature: - Benezit: Dictionnaire des Peintres, 1999 - Davenport’s Art Reference Guide, 2003/2004 - Gerald Schurr: Guidargus de la Peinture du XIXe siècle à nos jours, Paris 1999 - Wolpert and Winter: Modern Figurative Paintings, The Paris Connection, Atglen 2004 - Mr. Stehlin : Catalogue Raisonné de l’artiste.
