Children's Portrait by Paul Cesar Helleu (French, 1859-1927) "My Three Children, Ellen Jean and Alice," a drypoint on woven paper by Paul Cesar Helleu. Helleu was the portait master of the literary and aristocratic circles of Paris, London and new York. He was awarded the Legion d'Honneur and was commissioned to paint the astrological ceiling decoration in New York's Grand Central Station, which has since become a landmark. Helleu's drypoints were only published in very small editions, often less than 20 examples, which maintained very high standards in the quality of the prints. After 1920, he destroyed the copper plates fromm which his drypoints had been printed. His works are in the Louvre and the Musee du Lusembourg, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the museum in San Francisco. He is listedin all the major reference works: Benezit, Grove, Davenport, Mallett...
