Highly decorative African hand carved and painted mask in the style of a Goli tribal mask, Baule People, Ivory Coast. The flat, disk-shaped face with ringed eyes and rectangular mouth is surmounted by ears and curving horns. The bold red coloring has contrasting touches of black and white. Mounted on a custom made steel base. 20th Century.

Goli is the day-long spectacle that normally involves the whole village and includes the appearance of four pairs of masks, music played on special instruments, and, the joyous consumption of palm wine.
