Very cool handwrought iron rooster with original green patina, the bird shown strutting and showing off his regalia of life-like feathers. Large scale at 28 by 26 by 12 inches. Very likely made in Tuscany, where the rooster, 'gallo', is the symbol of the Chianti region. Mounted on a flat steel base.
Provenance: Estate of Skitch Henderson, the conductor, pianist and radio and television entertainer who provided music and repartee for Johnny Carson's "Tonight" show in the 1950s and 1960s and who founded and led the New York Pops.
