Pair of African Iron Bandaka Hoe Currency, Mounted on Custom Steel Bases
2 African iron Bandaka hoe currency, Mabila and Chamba Peoples, Nigeria and Cameroon. The iron, hammered into the form of a hoe, was used as currency. Mounted they are wonderful pieces of hand crafted sculpture steeped in culture and history. I find these so evocative, they have the practical use of currency and are such beautiful objects of art. Mounted and they are they resemble floating jellyfish, or whatever comes to mind. Each with its own personality, the one with a rust colored patina the other darker, the hand hammering evident on the surfaces, they compliment each other wonderfully.
