Charles BUSSON (French – 1822-1908) "Landscape with a Pond" Signed Charles Busson and dedicated to Madame Eugène Fromentin (Lower right) Oil on board – Excellent condition Beautiful original 19th century fluted-cove, gold-leafed French frame Busson, an artist of the Barbizon School, started his career at the Paris Salon in 1843 and kept on exhibiting regularly wining many awards and prizes including the Gold Medal at the 1878 World Fair. He later exhibited “hors-concours” in 1889 and became a member of the jury in 1900. Busson was appointed Knight of the Légion d’Honneur in 1866 and was later upgraded to Officer. Busson’s landscapes are painted with a remarkable sensitivity devoid of artificial or anecdotic effects. His solid technique rendered efficiently the various ambient lights and atmospheres from all the regions which inspired him.
