PAUL LOUIS GUILBERT (French Born in 1886) Le Port de Collioure (The Harbor of Collioure, FRANCE) Circa 1920 Signed Paul Louis Guilbert lower right Oil on canvas Excellent condition 22 x 27 cm 8 3/4x 10 5/8 in 35,5 x 41 cm with frame 14 x 16 in Beautiful custom-made, handcrafted Italian Renaissance style frame from the renowned Parisian framing house Rue Bonaparte A self-taught painter, Guilbert devoted himself to his art from 1923. He had a successful career as a landscape painter. From 1925, he exhibited at the highly regarded and avant-garde salon des Ind̩pendants of which he became a member of the Jury. The artist was a romantic storyteller and his paintings are extremely detailed even with his thick brushwork and impasto. Guilbert travelled in Spain and Italy from where he brought back witty and colorful harbor views and shore scenes.
